Melbourne's drinking water relies heavily on vast, protected forested catchments located high in the eastern mountain ranges, strictly closed off to public access.

Climate Infrastructure

The city features a temperate, highly variable climate driven by cold fronts from the Southern Ocean colliding with heat from the interior desert. Infrastructure is built to withstand extreme summer heatwaves and heavy winter storm cells. In the western and northern growth corridors, municipal authorities consistently work to mitigate the urban heat island effect, caused by vast tracts of concrete and historically low tree coverage.

The Grid Transition

Victoria's foundational energy grid relies heavily on legacy brown coal power stations situated in the Latrobe Valley. These massive generation assets are structurally scheduled for phased closures over the coming decade. To replace the capacity, state authorities are re-wiring the grid through the massive deployment of wind assets across regional Victoria and large-scale battery storage facilities.
