Territory Government
Alice Springs falls under the jurisdiction of the Northern Territory Government, a unicameral parliament based in Darwin. The town and its immediate surrounds are divided into specific electoral divisions, including Braitling, Araluen, and Namatjira, which return members to the Legislative Assembly. The Northern Territory is currently governed by the Country Liberal Party (CLP), led by Chief Minister Lia Finocchiaro. The NT Government controls major portfolios including health, education, police, and main roads.
Local Government
Municipal affairs are managed by the Alice Springs Town Council. The council operates from the Civic Centre on Todd Street and is responsible for local infrastructure such as waste management, local roads, parks, libraries, and community facilities. The council is led by a Mayor and a team of elected councillors who oversee the town's municipal budget and local bylaws.
Federal Representation
At the federal level, Alice Springs is part of the vast Division of Lingiari, which covers almost the entire Northern Territory outside of Darwin and its immediate surrounds. Federal politics heavily influences the region due to significant Commonwealth funding for Indigenous affairs, remote infrastructure, and national parks.
